Natural Landscape Category

  • Lianhua Peak (Lotus Peak)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Lianhua Peak is located in the middle of Huangshan Mountain, to the north of Yupinglou, and east of Tiandu Peak. It has an altitude of 1,864.8 meters and is the highest peak in the Huangshan Scenic Area. Because the main peak is prominent and surrounded by small peaks, just like a newly blooming lotus flower facing up and blooming in full, it is named “Lianhua Peak” (Lotus Peak).
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • To reach the top of Lianhua Peak from Lianhualing, one needs to climb 4 kilometers. Along the way, there are famous pines such as Feilong Pine and Daogua Pine, as well as Huangshan rhododendron. The top of Lianhua Peak is more than ten square feet in diameter, with a fragrant sand well in the middle. Standing here, one can look east to Tianmu Mountain, west to Lushan Mountain, north to Jiuhua Mountain and the Yangtze River.
  • Tiandu Peak
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Tiandu Peak is located in the southeast of Huangshan Mountain, west of Lianhua Peak and east of Boyu Peak. It is known as one of the three main peaks of Huangshan Mountain along with Guangmingding and Lianhua Peak, with an altitude of 1,810 meters. Tiandu Peak is a horn peak formed by the Quaternary glacier. The peak is flat like a palm, with the inscription “Dengfeng Zaoji” (Reaching the Peak of Perfection).
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • Although the height of Tiandu Peak is not as high as that of the main peak Lianhua Peak of Huangshan Mountain, its degree of steepness is by no means comparable to that of Lianhua Peak. The Baizhang Yunti (Hundred-Zhang Cloud Ladder) is almost straight up and down. Among them, Jiyu Bei (Carp’s Back) is famous for its strange and dangerous nature. On both sides are cliffs thousands of feet deep and unfathomable. Its shape is quite like the back of a fish emerging from the waves, so it gets this name. From top to bottom, the slope is as steep as about 85 degrees. If there is wind blowing and clouds surging, it seems that the mountain is shaking and the rocks are moving. Tourists here are all trembling with fear.
  • Guangmingding (Bright Summit)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Guangmingding is one of the main peaks of Huangshan Mountain, located in the middle of Huangshan Mountain with an altitude of 1,860 meters. It gets its name because it is high, open and exposed to sunlight for a long time.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • This is one of the best places in Huangshan Mountain to watch the sunrise, sunset and sea of clouds. The top is flat and open, from where one can view the strange scenery of the East Sea, the peaks in the West Sea, and the peaks of Liandan, Tiandu, Lianhua, Yuping, Aoyu and other peaks are all in sight. In the Ming Dynasty, Monk Pumen once founded Dabei Courtyard on the top. Now there is a Huangshan Meteorological Station on its ruins.

Strange Pines and Rocks Category

  • Yingkesong (Guest-Greeting Pine)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Yingkesong is located on the left side of Yupinglou in Huangshan Mountain, above Wenshudong. It grows out of the green lion rock and is 10 meters high, with a diameter at breast height of 0.64 meters, a ground diameter of 75 centimeters, and a branch height of 2.5 meters. Its tree age is at least 1,300 years old and it is a landmark landscape of Huangshan Mountain.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • The posture of Yingkesong is graceful. One side of its branches extends like a person stretching out his arm to welcome guests from afar, graceful and magnanimous. It is an outstanding representative of Huangshan pines and also a symbol of Anhui Province, carrying the cultural connotation of the Chinese people’s hospitality.
  • Songkesong (Guest-Sending Pine)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Songkesong is located in the Yuping scenic area of the Huangshan Scenic Area, beside the path on the right side of Yupinglou, corresponding to Yingkesong from a distance.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • This pine has a verdant and coiled trunk, with a side branch stretching out, resembling a person making a bow to send off guests, so it is named “Songkesong” (Guest-Sending Pine). Together with Yingkesong, it forms a unique etiquette cultural landscape in Huangshan Mountain. There is a poem praising it: “The beautiful shadow beside the rock with a side branch stretching out, a verdant face full of spring. The doctor of the Yellow Sea is really hospitable, waving his hand every day to send off tourists.”
  • Heihusong (Black Tiger Pine)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Heihusong grows at an altitude of 1,650 meters at the fork in the road from the downhill of the Bai’e Ridge Cableway Station in Huangshan Mountain to Shixinfeng. Legend has it that when a senior monk in Shizilin was meditating, he saw a black tiger lying on the top of the pine. Later, when he searched for the black tiger, it was gone, only to see an ancient pine that was tall and vigorous, with a trunk and branches full of majestic momentum and a fierce tiger-like aura, so it was named “Heihusong” (Black Tiger Pine).
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • The crown of this pine is nearly black and thick green, and its branches are coiled, with a majestic momentum and a powerful tiger-like appearance. Its posture and momentum give people a strong visual impact, fully demonstrating the tenacious vitality and unique artistic beauty of Huangshan pines.
  • Houzi Guanhai (Monkey Watching the Sea)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Houzi Guanhai is located at Lion Peak in Huangshan Mountain, on a flat-topped peak north of Lion Peak.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • There is a unique rock that looks like a monkey squatting and sitting quietly, watching the undulating sea of clouds, so people call it “Houzi Guanhai” (Monkey Watching the Sea). When the clouds and fog dissipate, the stone monkey also seems to be looking at the green fields in Taiping County (now Huangshan District, Huangshan City) in the distance, so it is also named “Houzi Wang Taiping” (Monkey Looking at Taiping). This scene combines the unique rock with the sea of clouds, vivid and interesting.
  • Mengbi Shenghua (Dream Brush Gives Birth to a Flower)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Mengbi Shenghua is located on the left side of Sanhuawu in Beihai, Huangshan Mountain, with an altitude of more than 1,600 meters.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • On an isolated stone peak, there is a unique rock that looks like a writing brush with the tip facing up. And in the crack of the stone tip, there is a strange and exquisite ancient pine, coiling and zigzagging, with a green shade like a blooming flower, so it is named “Mengbi Shenghua” (Dream Brush Gives Birth to a Flower). This landscape skillfully combines humanistic imagery with natural scenery, giving people unlimited room for imagination.

Water Scenery and Others

  • Huangshan Wenquan (Huangshan Hot Spring)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Huangshan Wenquan is located under Ziyun Peak in the Huangshan Scenic Area, on the north bank of Tangquanxi. The water temperature is around 42℃ all year round, which belongs to alpine hot spring.
    • Characteristic Landscapes and Efficacy
      • The water of Huangshan Wenquan is clear and tastes sweet. It can be drunk and bathed in. It has certain curative effects on some diseases of the digestive, nervous, cardiovascular, metabolic, motor and other systems, especially skin diseases. The ancient name of the hot spring area is “Taoyuan Wonderland”. The hot spring water faces Taohua Peak across the stream. Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan bathed here for forty-nine days and regained his youth and ascended to immortality, so it is also known as the “Spiritual Spring”.
  • Renzipu (Herringbone Waterfall)
    • Geographical Location and Overview
      • Renzipu was formerly known as Feiyuquan and is located between Zishi Peak and Zhusha Peak in Huangshan Mountain.
    • Characteristic Landscapes
      • The waterfall has one source and two flows, flowing out between Ziyun Peak and Zhusha Peak. Seen from a high place, the waterfall is in the shape of a “herringbone”, just like two white dragons flying down, with a majestic momentum. The waterfall water hits the rocks, making a deafening roar and splashing layers of water mist. Under the sunlight, a gorgeous rainbow is formed, which is quite spectacular.
